Best AI Tools for Email Marketing in 2026: 9 Tools Compared
Best AI Tools for Email Marketing in 2026: 9 Tools and What They Cost as Your List Grows
Last updated: October 2026. Prices were checked on vendor pages and recent pricing guides between March and October 2026. Email tools change plans often, so confirm before you subscribe.
Email is still one of the most reliable ways to reach customers, because you own the list. No algorithm decides who sees your message.
But email tools have a pricing trap that catches almost everyone: most of them charge by the number of contacts you have, so a tool that costs $10 a month today can cost $100 a month when your list grows. In 2026 several free plans also got smaller. This guide covers nine tools, what AI features they actually offer, and what each costs as your list grows.
Quick answer
| You are… | Start with |
|---|---|
| A beginner with a small list | MailerLite or Brevo |
| A blogger, writer or creator | Kit (formerly ConvertKit) |
| A Shopify or online store | Klaviyo or Omnisend |
| Already using HubSpot for contacts | HubSpot |
| Needing advanced automation | ActiveCampaign |
| Familiar with it and want an all-rounder | Mailchimp |
| Writing the emails themselves | ChatGPT |
What “AI” really does in email tools
Be careful with the AI label. In practice, AI in email marketing mostly means:
- Writing help: subject lines, preview text, draft copy, rewrites.
- Send-time optimization: sending each email when a person is most likely to open it.
- Segmentation and prediction: grouping people by behavior, or predicting who might buy.
- Design help: generating a layout from a prompt.
None of it replaces knowing your audience. The best results come from clear offers, honest subject lines and emails people actually want.
What each tool costs as your list grows
This is the table most guides skip. Prices are approximate starting prices for the main paid plan. Check each vendor’s calculator for your exact list size.
| Tool | Free plan | ~500 to 1,000 contacts | ~5,000 contacts |
|---|---|---|---|
| MailerLite (Growing Business) | 500 subscribers | from $10 | about $39 monthly ($29 annual) |
| Mailchimp (Standard) | 250 contacts | from $20 | about $100 |
| Klaviyo (Email) | 250 profiles | from $20 | about $100 |
| Kit (Creator) | up to 10,000 subscribers | from $39 at 1,000 | about $89 |
| Brevo (Standard) | 300 emails per day | from $18 (priced by emails sent) | priced by emails sent |
| Omnisend (Standard) | 250 contacts | from $16 | varies by list |
Use this as a rough guide only. Plans, features and limits differ between tools, so compare what you actually need.
The 9 best AI tools for email marketing
1. ChatGPT: best for writing the emails
Even if your email platform has AI built in, many marketers draft in ChatGPT. It is good at subject line ideas, rewriting a long email so it is clearer, writing three versions of a call to action, and turning a product description into a short promo.
A few prompts that work well:
- “Give me 10 subject lines for this email. Keep each under 50 characters and avoid hype words.”
- “Rewrite this email so a busy reader gets the point in the first two sentences.”
- “Here is my product and my audience. Suggest three segments I could email differently.”
- Price: Free plan available. Plus is $20 per month
- Good for: Drafting, rewriting, subject lines, ideas
- Watch out for: Do not paste private customer data into it. Always edit so the email sounds like you, and never invent claims or discounts
[ADD YOUR OWN NOTE HERE: one real email or subject line you wrote with AI help, what you changed, and how it performed. This is the most valuable first-hand section of the post.]
2. MailerLite: best budget choice for beginners
MailerLite is simple and cheap, with a clean editor, automations and landing pages. Its AI writing assistant sits on the Advanced plan. In 2025 it reduced its free plan to 500 subscribers, so older reviews that say 1,000 are out of date.
- Price: Free for up to 500 subscribers and 12,000 emails per month. Growing Business starts at about $10 per month for 500 subscribers ($9 on annual billing). Advanced starts at about $20 per month
- Good for: Small businesses, bloggers and newsletters on a budget
- Watch out for: The free plan is limited, and AI writing help needs the higher plan
3. Brevo: best generous free plan for sending
Brevo (formerly Sendinblue) is unusual because it charges by how many emails you send, not by contacts. Its free plan allows 300 emails per day with a large contact list, which suits businesses that email occasionally.
- Price: Free plan sends up to 300 emails per day and includes Brevo branding. Starter begins around $9 per month for 5,000 emails, and Standard, which adds automation, begins around $18 per month. Prices rise with email volume, for example roughly $65 to $69 for Standard at 20,000 emails per month. A Professional plan starts around $499 per month for high-volume senders
- Good for: Businesses with big contact lists who send occasional campaigns
- Watch out for: The 300-per-day limit blocks large one-off sends on the free plan, and removing Brevo’s logo costs extra on Starter
4. Kit (formerly ConvertKit): best for creators and bloggers
ConvertKit rebranded as Kit. It is built for creators who want to grow a newsletter, sell digital products and automate sequences. Its free plan is unusually generous in subscriber count, though it limits automations and integrations.
- Price: Free Newsletter plan for up to 10,000 subscribers. Creator starts at about $39 per month for 1,000 subscribers ($33 on annual billing), rising to roughly $59 at 3,000 and $89 at 5,000. Pro starts at about $79 per month ($66 annually)
- Good for: Bloggers, authors, YouTubers and course creators
- Watch out for: Prices rose in 2026, and costs climb with subscribers, so compare against MailerLite and Brevo as your list grows
5. Mailchimp: best known all-rounder, but not the cheapest
Mailchimp is the name most beginners know. It handles newsletters, automations and basic AI content tools, but its free plan shrank in January 2026, and prices rise quickly as your list grows. Multi-step automations need the Standard plan.
- Price: Free for up to 250 contacts and 500 sends per month. Essentials starts at $13 per month and Standard at $20 per month for 500 contacts. At 5,000 contacts, roughly $75 for Essentials and $100 for Standard
- Good for: Beginners who want a familiar tool and a big integration library
- Watch out for: You pay for the size of your list, even for inactive contacts, and the free plan no longer includes automations
6. Klaviyo: best for online stores
Klaviyo is the go-to for Shopify and other e-commerce stores, with deep store data, product-based flows (abandoned cart, back in stock) and predictive features. Since 2025 it bills by “active profiles”, which includes all contactable profiles, not just those you email.
- Price: Free for up to 250 active profiles and 500 email sends per month. The Email plan starts at $20 per month for 251 to 500 profiles, around $100 at 5,000 and about $150 at 10,000. Email plus SMS starts around $35 per month, and SMS credits are billed separately
- Good for: E-commerce stores that want revenue tracking and strong automation
- Watch out for: Costs rise quickly as your list grows. If you are not running a store, it is probably more than you need
7. Omnisend: best budget alternative for stores
Omnisend is another e-commerce tool, often cheaper than Klaviyo to start. It also covers SMS and push notifications. Its plans were reshuffled in 2026, so double-check what is included.
- Price: Free for up to 250 contacts and 500 emails per month. Standard starts at about $16 per month for 500 contacts, with email sends equal to 12 times your contact count. Pro starts at about $59 per month with unlimited emails. SMS is billed separately
- Good for: Small online stores that want email plus SMS
- Watch out for: SMS costs add up, and plan details changed in May 2026
8. ActiveCampaign: best for advanced automation
ActiveCampaign is known for one of the strongest automation builders, plus a CRM. It is built for businesses that want complex flows like lead scoring and multi-step nurture sequences. There is no free plan, only a 14-day trial.
- Price: Priced by contacts. At 1,000 contacts, Starter is about $15 per month on annual billing ($19 monthly), Plus about $49 ($59 monthly), and Pro about $79 ($99 monthly). Starter limits automations to five actions each, so serious automation starts on Plus
- Good for: Businesses that need advanced automation and CRM
- Watch out for: Costs climb steeply with list size, and it is overkill for a simple newsletter
9. HubSpot: best if you already use it for contacts
HubSpot’s free tools include a CRM and basic email marketing (with a monthly email limit), and its paid plans add automation, sequences and its Breeze AI assistant. It makes sense when your contacts and deals already live there. We cover it further in our automation tools guide.
- Price: Free tools available. The Starter Customer Platform costs roughly $15 to $20 per seat per month (new-customer promotions can be lower)
- Good for: Businesses that want email and CRM in one place
- Watch out for: The jump to Professional is steep, and AI features use credits
Rules you cannot skip (US sending basics)
Good tools will not save you if your email is not compliant. Basics for 2026:
- CAN-SPAM (US): include your real physical mailing address, give a clear unsubscribe link and honor opt-outs promptly, and never use deceptive subject lines or sender names.
- Gmail and Yahoo bulk sender rules: if you send in volume, authenticate your domain (SPF, DKIM and DMARC), make unsubscribing easy, and keep spam complaint rates low. Check current Gmail and Yahoo guidelines for exact thresholds.
- Consent: only email people who agreed to hear from you. Never buy lists.
- Privacy: be careful with personal data you paste into any AI tool.
These are general guidelines, not legal advice. Check the rules that apply to you and your audience.
Two ready-made stacks
The $0 stack (new list)
- MailerLite Free or Kit Free (pick one)
- ChatGPT (free) for drafts
- Canva (free) for simple graphics
Enough to start a newsletter and learn what your readers like, without paying anything.
The lean paid stack (growing list of about 1,000)
| Tool | Approx. monthly cost |
|---|---|
| MailerLite Growing Business | about $15 |
| ChatGPT Plus | $20 |
| Canva (free) | $0 |
Total: roughly $35 per month at 1,000 subscribers. If you run an online store, swap MailerLite for Klaviyo or Omnisend.
Tools we removed from the earlier version
The first version had 11 tools. We made these changes:
- Copy.ai and Jasper: Both focus on marketing teams and cost much more than ChatGPT. For most small senders, ChatGPT covers the writing at $20 or less.
- Grammarly: Still useful for proofreading emails, and we cover it in our blogger tools guide.
- ConvertKit: Renamed to Kit, so it is listed above under its new name.
- Added: MailerLite, which is one of the best budget picks for beginners.
Mistakes that hurt email results
- Sending to everyone. Segment your list, even simply by “new” and “existing” customers.
- AI-written emails with no personality. Edit every draft so it sounds like you.
- Clickbait subject lines. They may lift opens once and damage trust for good.
- Never cleaning your list. Remove inactive contacts so you do not pay for them.
- Ignoring mobile. Most people read email on their phones, so keep layouts simple.
FAQ
What is the best AI tool for email marketing? There is no single best. ChatGPT is great for writing, MailerLite and Brevo for budget sending, Kit for creators, and Klaviyo or Omnisend for online stores.
Can AI write marketing emails? Yes, it can draft subject lines, newsletters and promotions. You still need to edit, add real details and make sure every claim is true.
Are AI email marketing tools free? Many have free plans: MailerLite, Brevo, Kit, Mailchimp, Klaviyo, Omnisend and HubSpot all do, but limits differ and several were reduced in 2025 and 2026.
Can AI improve email open rates? It can help you test better subject lines and send times, but it does not guarantee higher opens. Relevance and trust matter more than any tool.
Which email tool is cheapest as my list grows? It depends on your list size and how often you send. Compare MailerLite, Brevo and Kit using each tool’s pricing calculator for your real numbers.
Start with a free plan, build a list of people who actually want to hear from you, and add paid features only when you hit a real limit. Check the price at your next list size before you commit, because that is where email tools differ most.
